Background

Auburn House School is a long-established independent school that offers a nurturing and caring learning environment. The essence of the school originates from a strong philosophy, the Montessori principle of regard and appreciation for each individual, contributing towards a sustainable and healthy society.

Auburn House is suited to meet the diverse individual needs of all our children. Children receive unique stimulation, facilitation, intervention, and a method of learning that calls to the child, not just at school but for life.

Auburn House aims to support, to the best of their abilities, each child’s developing independence – physically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally – and to nourish the spirit of each individual, as they grow toward adulthood.

"We must look to the children as a vehicle for bringing change to humanity." – Dr Maria Montessori

Curriculum

The Pre-primary is at the heart of the school, where young children first begin to experience being part of a community. The classes are structured in a traditional Montessori way, with children between three and six years old interacting together, learning from and assisting each other. They are developing physical independence, social skills and confidence in their increasing competence and knowledge.

The Junior Primary currently comprises two classes for children aged six to nine years, and the Senior Primary has one class for children aged nine to 12 years. The environments are prepared for independent learning – critical and creative thinking, collaboration and guided free choice – and for the natural development of each child.

The core curriculum involves Maths, English Language, Knowledge and Understanding of the World (KUW), and is enriched with Music, Art, Life Skills, Drama, Creative Movement, Afrikaans, Xhosa, and Physical Education.

Fees

Fees for the 2025/2026 school year range from ZAR 57,178 for Pre-primary to ZAR 86,845 for Senior Primary and are payable either yearly or monthly. There is also a non-refundable application fee of ZAR 500.

"Auburn House School, situated in the leafy suburb of Kenilworth and founded in 1984, is one of Cape Town’s flagship Montessori schools. It is a multicultural and diverse school that values human potential and offers a Montessori curriculum with a focus on South African learning outcomes.

"The campus is spread across a large area and includes three lovely buildings that house children of various ages. Preschool children range in age from three to six, followed by Foundation Phase children aged six to nine and Intermediate Phase children aged nine to 12."
